Can you trace your family back to Portugal?  Want to discover your ancestral roots?  Or just interested in a bit of Jewish history?  Let us put together a private tour for you that brings the ancient Jewish communities of Portugal to life.

Walk in the footsteps of your ancestors, or visit the synagogues.  Learn the ancient traditions and ways of life of your ancestors, whilst discovering the lands they called, and still call, home.

Our private jewish sightseeing begins in three of the four old Jewish quarters in Lisbon: the Alfama old jewish quarter, the Old Jewry and the New Jewry or Taracenas. Alfama is a chance for you to discover the most ancient and traditional neighborhood of Lisbon, with the narrow streets and local small squares. Truly this is an experience not to be missed!

The majestic Manueline door of the Old Conception Church, and the beautiful scenery and rich history in the ancient Palace Square leads us to the heart of Lisbon.

Between shops, cafes and artists we go through one of the most beautiful streets of Lisbon, Augusta street and Rossio square, with the Theater D. Maria II, previously the Palace of Estaus (Inquisition Headquarters), and the jewish memorial in Largo de São Domingos.

Here you can enjoy a local drink. We left a clue! You can choose “with them or without them” …

In the afternoon we visit the Lisbon Synagogue, Shaaré Tikvá the first one to be built since the official destruction of Portuguese Judaism in 1497. Now in the oldest Jewish quarter, the Judiaria da Pedreira in Largo do Carmo, discover one of the most famous neighborhoods of Lisbon – Bairro Alto.

Chance to taking in all the sites including the narrow streets and lively squares.

Our tour continues in Belem quarter to visit the Jeronimos Monastery, the Belem Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries.

The day ends with a delicacy, the most appreciated and internationally known ” pastel de Belém “. Truly not to be missed!
